Bluesky

Bluesky-specific integration guide

Overview

Bluesky analytics are collected through the AT Protocol’s public API. Unlike some other platforms, Bluesky provides limited but reliable engagement metrics without requiring authentication.

Available Metrics

Likes - Number of likes on your post
Reposts - Number of reposts/shares
Replies - Number of replies to your post
Quote Posts - Number of quote posts that reference your post

Not Available

Views/Impressions - Bluesky does not provide view counts through their API
Click-through rates - Not available through the API
Reach metrics - Not provided by the platform

Why No View Counts?

Bluesky has intentionally not implemented view counts in their API or platform. This is a design decision by the Bluesky team, and there are multiple community requests for this feature (see GitHub issues #1883 and #7387).

Authentication

  • Public API: No authentication required for basic metrics
  • Authenticated API: Optional - provides the same metrics but may be more reliable
  • Credentials: Username/handle + app password (this is the Bluesky recommended option) OR AT protocol access token

API Limitations

  • Rate limits apply (specific limits not publicly documented)
  • Only public posts can be analyzed
  • Historical data availability depends on post age and platform policies

Best Practices

  1. Focus on engagement quality rather than view quantity
  2. Track engagement trends over time instead of absolute view numbers
  3. Use multiple metrics to get a complete picture of post performance
  4. Consider Bluesky’s community-focused nature when interpreting metrics

Future Updates

This integration will be updated if/when Bluesky adds view counts or other metrics to their API.
